FOOTBALL fans from across the island of Ireland were widely hailed for their part in the success of Euro 2016 during the summer.
Their commendable humour, fantastic vocal support of their teams and all-round charisma won both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland fans accolades from the Mayor of Paris.
Republic of Ireland fans have generally been held in high regard ever since Italia ’90 and now their Northern Ireland counterparts are doing the same having gone through a drastic image change over the past decade.
Gone is the intimidating atmosphere, in has come the ‘everybody welcome’ attitude, as this latest video – taken by celebrity fan and TV presenter Colin Murray – shows.
After being beaten 2-0 by world champions Germany in Hanover on Tuesday night, the fans remained upbeat, belting out Neil Diamond classic Sweet Caroline – not your typical football chant.
Former Match of the Day 2 host Murray posted a video of the sing-song on his Twitter feed and it depicts the sort of attitude the rest of Europe have come to adore Northern Ireland fans for.
