‘Politics forever’ – Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov FINED and BANNED for UFC brawl

CONOR MCGREGOR and Khabib Nurmagomedov have been handed lengthy bans and substantial fines following the mass brawl that unfolded at UFC 229 in October.

The Irishman has been suspended for six months and fined $50,000 (£38,095) for his part in the ugly scenes that unfolded.

Nurmagomedov has also been handed a nine-month ban by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) along with a fine of $500,000 (£380,950).

The fines and lengths of the ban reflect on the two fighters’ roles in the ensuing brawl, which involved team members and coaching staff from both sides.

It was Nurmagomedov who sparked off the scenes after climbing out of the Octagon and launching himself at a member of McGregor’s team.

The Irishman, meanwhile, found himself under attack from several members of the Russian’s entourage.

As a result, two of Nurmagomedov's team have also been suspensed by the NAC.

Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tukhugov have been fined fined $25,000 (£19,030 and banned for one year.

The bans do come with some stipulations.

Nurmagomedov’s ban will be reduced to six months if he agrees to participate in a Nevada-wide anti-bullying campaign.

Both suspensions have also been backdated to the date of the Las Vegas fight, meaning McGregor and Nurmagomedov will return sooner rather than later.

The Russian’s return could be delayed until after June 5th though as he is a practising Muslim and will honour Ramadan.

Nurmagomedov has already posted his reaction to the NAC ban on social media, simply tweeting: “politics forever”.

He followed that up with an Instagram post of himself, napping, alongside the caption: “Wake me up, when it's all over.”

The Russian also retweeted a clip of McGregor tapping out at UFC 229.

McGregor has so far failed to comment on the news.
