MAYO-BASED newspaper Western People needs your help to spread the word of a reunion for the now defunct Dr Crokes GAA of Harrow.
The success of the Dr Crokes GAA club, who played under Hertfordshire GAA, will be celebrated at a special gathering taking place in Westport, Co. Mayo on October 24.
The organisers are extending an open invitation to former players, officials and supporters of Dr Crokes from all across Ireland and Britain to attend.
The team, which was located on the outskirts of north west London, won three Hertfordshire Senior Football Championships in a five-year period around the late 1980s to early 1990s.
They added four Hertfordshire Senior League titles and numerous Fr Hanlon Cup crowns to a bulging trophy cabinet.
Players from Kerry, Cork, Mayo, Galway, Leitrim, Donegal, Laois and Dublin were among those who contributed to a golden era for Dr Crokes who, at their pinnacle, were only narrowly beaten by London champions Parnells in the 1991 All-Britain SFC Final.
Some former Crokes players are already confirmed as travelling from all over Ireland, Britain and even Australia for the get-together of old friends and teammates at the Clew Bay Hotel, Westport on Saturday, October 24.
Tickets for the buffet and dance (€25) are available by contacting Clew Bay Hotel at 098-28088 or by email at [email protected]. The event is to kick off at 7.30pm sharp.
