CILLIAN O’Connor scored nine points as Connacht standard bearers Mayo overcame a spirited Galway outfit at Pearse Stadium.

Goals from Gary Sice and Danny Cummins kept Galway in touch, but Mayo, inspired by Aidan O’Shea held on.

Galway’s Finian Hanley and Mayo’s Lee Keegan were both sent off in the closing stages of a tense encounter at Salthill.

Rory Gallagher’s Donegal cruised to a convincing success over Armagh at the Athletic Grounds.

Paddy McBrearty’s early goal set the tone and Martin O’Reilly added a second major after the restart as Donegal controlled the contest throughout.

Promising Tipperary forward Michael Quinlivan bagged two first half goals, but All Ireland champions Kerry were still too good for the Premier boys in Thurles.

Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper made a welcome return to summer football for Kerry with Paul Geaney and Barry John Keane netting goals.

Donnacha O’Connor contributed 1-5 as Cork easily dealt with the challenge of an understrength Clare at Pairc Ui Rinn.

Tom Cribbin’s Westmeath finished with a real flourish at Mullingar to set up a Leinster semi-final date against Meath.

Kieran Martin’s goal was followed by a flurry of Westmeath points as the improving midlanders advanced.

Meath were forced to endure some anxious moments at Navan, but Andrew Tormey and Graham Reilly’s brilliance proved to be decisive.

Tormey accumulated 1-9 while Reilly struck 1-4 from play as the Royals defeated Wicklow for who Conor McGraynor (2) and Paul Cronin scored goals.

Despite being level at the break Kildare hammered Laois in Saturday evening’s quarter final replay at Tullamore.

Eamonn Callaghan, Cathal McNally, and Eoghan O’Flaherty all rattled the Laois net during the second half rout.
