One million people watched Armagh win a famous All-Ireland against Galway

The All-Ireland football final between Galway and Armagh was viewed by over 1 million people on RTÉ on Sunday.

Armagh and Galway played out the Croke Park decider, and it was underdog Armagh that won on the day. Armagh's 1-11 to Galway's 0-13 was enough to see them win their second All-Ireland in their history.

Television stats from the game were released on Monday, and a report from the state broadcaster claims that 76% of those watching TV at the time were tuned into the game.

There were also 356,416 streams on RTÉ Player, up from 184,987 streams for last year's football decider between Croke Park regulars Dublin and Kerry, in which Dublin won.

The highlights programme, The Sunday Game on RTÉ One, drew an average audience of 191,000 for an audience share of 21%.

RTÉ One's Up for the Match, presented by Jacqui Hurley and Des Cahill, delivered an audience of 294,000 on RTÉ One on Saturday night.

RTÉ Group Head of Sport Declan McBennett said: "As live sport dominates our screens, the draw of the All-Ireland finals remains constant.

"A wonderful day for Armagh Gaels and an enthralling final which made lifelong memories for those from the Orchard County."

This comes after positive figures were also produced for the hurling final between Cork and Clare the week prior.
