Oisín CLG Ladies of Manchester in fight to raise funds for All-Ireland trip

ALL-BRITAIN Ladies Football Champions Oisín CLG of Manchester have launched an online campaign to raise funds for their scheduled continental trip to face Belgium GAA later this month.

Having beaten Glasgow Gaels 0-14 to 0-10 last weekend, Oisín have earned the right to represent Britain in the All-Ireland Ladies Junior Championship preliminary round.

However, as exciting as a trip to Maastricht in the Netherlands to face Europe GAA’s finest may be, the game with Belgium promises to be an expensive affair for the club.

"Our primary focus is on the football, but funding is a concern," Lancashire Ladies Secretary Emma O'Connor told The Irish Post.

"Looking at flights, it is looking at £200-250 per member, and this is before we look at accommodation, food and miscellaneous expenses.”

The club are taking a proactive approach towards raising the necessary funds though, with the required figure feared to be in the region of £10,000 to cover all aspects, though their initial goal is to reach £3,000 in donations.

Their sponsors, The Station Bar in Didsbury, are hosting a Q&A session with Republic of Ireland legend Kevin Kilbane on October 22, with tickets available for just £10.

Furthermore, the club - Manchester's oldest GAA outfit at 111 years - hope to get in touch with former Oasis pair Noel Gallagher and his brother Liam, who both togged out for Oisín CLG at underage level in the 1980s.

16 year old Noel Gallagher lines out in Croke Park, 1983.Noel and Liam Gallagher played GAA for Manchester club Oisín's. This game was an exhibition game against Kilmacud Crokes.

“Whatever happens, we will get there, even if we need to walk,” added Ms O’Connor. Donations can be made online via the club’s Go Get Funding page.
