O’Gara set to announce retirement from rugby

IRELAND fly-half Ronan O’Gara is expected to announce his retirement from professional rugby this week, according to reports.

The Irish Independent today reported that O’Gara - who is the Heineken Cup’s top points scorer and Test rugby’s third most-capped player (130) - had played his last game.

The news follows Munster’s 16-10 defeat to Clermont Auvergne in the Heineken Cup in Montpellier on Saturday.

When asked about his future in the immediate aftermath of that match, O’Gara said: “It’s not the time for me to be thinking or talking about retirement.

"I owed it to my team-mates to be totally focused on the game today and I was.”

The Express have reported that the 36-year-old will delay any announcement about a possible retirement until after Munster’s final game of the season against Zebra on Friday.
