GAA president Aogan O'Fearghail has defended London's participation in the Connacht Senior Football Championship.
Former Roscommon goalkeeper Shane Curran appeared on The Sunday Game highlights show on May 24 and criticised London's involvement. “They’ll come once every 35 or 40 years with a team that can compete, but the overall job of what they’re doing to the championship isn’t that good,” Curran said.
O'Fearghail took exception to Curran's comments. “London were attacked in a disgraceful way as having no right to even be in it and nobody said anything," O'Fearghail said. "Not one panellist disagreed with that opinion.
“I think that’s very disrespectful to London. London having every bit as much right to be in the Connacht Championship as Cavan have to be in an Ulster Championship and I think that point of view needs to be aired.”
