Ó Muircheartaigh to commentate on charity GAA game

LEGENDARY GAA commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh will put retirement to one side to commentate on a charity football match next month.

The Professor Hollywood Memorial Cup, which will raise money for St Luke's Hospital and St James' Hospital, is in its second year and will take place at Parnell Park, Dublin, on August 8.

The event, which was created in order to show that an active life can still be led after beating cancer, will see GAA players who have been treated for the illness battle each other on the pitch.

Dublin legend Charlie Redmond will oversee St Lukes’ side, while former Dublin hurling manager Anthony Daly will take charge of St James’. Joe Dean is among several former inter-county players getting involved.

Former RTE broadcaster O'Muircheartaigh said: “Every player on the field, they are already winners. They have many honours as sportsmen but their greatest honour is that they have battled courageously against the disease of cancer.”

Tickets for the event are available for €7 while those who cannot attend can make a donation of €4 by texting MATCH to 50300.
