‘Say sorry’ – Mum of Irish boy, 6, killed by car says Conor McGregor should apologise for using phone while driving

THE grieving mother of a boy killed by a motorist in 2014 has called on Conor McGregor to apologise for recording himself on his phone while driving.

Roseann Brennan's six-year-old son Jake died in her arms after he was struck by a car outside the family's Co. Kilkenny home four years ago.

She later became a vocal campaigner for road safety after setting up the 'Jake's Legacy' group to raise awareness and campaign for lower speed limits in Ireland.

Speaking to The Niall Boylan Show on Classic Hits 4FM, Ms Brennan said she was "horrified" to see footage on Conor McGregor's Instagram account in which he recorded himself with his phone while driving.

She believes the Crumlin-born MMA star must apologise for the video in his position as a role model.

"I call on Conor McGregor to publicly give an apology not to me but to the people that were seriously injured or killed on our roads," Ms Brennan said.

"He is actually saying to [his fans] that it's cool to get in your car, drive, take a selfie and have no seat belt.

"He is being irresponsible and childish doing something that you'd expect of a teenager

“I actually thought he was a clever man but I actually think he is stupid."

She added: "Conor has so much of an influence, if he just used that he could do so much good being a proper role model...what is he playing at?"

While Ms Brennan conceded that McGregor was not intentionally promoting dangerous driving, she feels his video could have a detrimental effect on impressionable young fans.

"We finally get somewhere and this [footage] goes out, it's all about attitude," she said.

"He doesn't realise what it's like to be a family and witness what we did and put so much heart in it to make our roads safer."
