Minister for Sport Thomas Byrne wishes Irish Paralympians well

Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education and the Gaeltacht, Thomas Byrne, has sent his best wishes to the 35 Irish Paralympians competing in the Paralympic Games in Paris.

“I want to extend my very best wishes to Team Ireland for representing our country at the Paralympic Games. I have no doubt that each member of Team Ireland will represent our country with pride and excellence. Most importantly, I hope everyone on the team savours this incredible experience,” said Byrne this week on the Sport Ireland website

“The Paralympic Games provide an extraordinary platform for our athletes to display their talents on the global stage. To Team Ireland, my message is to go to Paris and give it your all, and to know that your entire nation is cheering you on.”

Fans looking to catch the action will have a chance to see over 100 hours of coverage on RTÉ2 television and on RTÉ Player, with further coverage on radio and their other platforms.

Paralympics Ireland President Eimear Breathnach added that the team being sent over was the culmination of the hardwork the athletes and support teams have put in

“On behalf of Paralympics Ireland, I would like to thank the Department of Sport, Sport Ireland, and the Sport Ireland Institute for their support throughout this Games cycle.

“We are looking forward to seeing our 35 athletes compete at the Paralympic Games on August 28th in nine different sports. This is the culmination of so much work and preparation from the athletes and their support teams, and I have no doubt that they will be ready to produce their best possible performances on this great stage.”

The Paralympic Games will take place from Wednesday, August 28, 2024, to Sunday, September 8, 2024. Team Ireland will compete across nine sports.
