Mid-week betting tips: Oh So Sassy can bear weight of expectation

WEDNESDAY

KEMPTON PARK

6.20   BETDAQ 25 NO LOSE FREE BET HANDICAP — 1 MILE

Musaddas made a decent enough seasonal debut for Saeed Bin Suroor when finishing runner up to Lacan at Nottingham a couple of weeks ago. The yard thought him good enough to contest races out at the Dubai Carnival so they clearly hold him in some regard. Kieran Fallon would have had the choice between him and stablemate Furas and it looks highly significant that he has chosen this four year old son of Exceed And Excel.

Furas is one from one at this track and he too could be open to any amount of improvement. Paul Hanagan is booked to ride the Shamardal colt who ought to improve over this one-mile trip. The combination is completely unexposed and looks the biggest threat to the selection.

Dursey Island returned to form at Goodwood last time following a spell in the wilderness. This polytrack surface should not prove a problem as he was been placed previously on it albeit at Lingfield. He too can be expected to make the frame. Musaddas is entitled to come on for that recent run and it is highly unlikely that we have as yet seen the best of him.

Oh So Sassy can defy top weight as she steps back up in distance. She was making her first appearance in seven months at Lingfield last time and was only just seen off by a more race fit rival in Pucon. That run should have cleared away any cobwebs and having already won at this track in the past she should be capable of another good run with George Baker on board.

Moonspring is a dual course and distance winner who comes here looking to complete a four-timer. Oisin Murphy has built up a decent partnership with Robert Cowell’s three-year-old and the pair look to be the biggest threat to Oh So Sassy.

Backstage Gossip has a lot more on her plate here than when winning a soft ground maiden at Salisbury whilst Joie De Reve has as yet to prove herself over a trip as short as this. Oh So Sassy looks capable of further improvement and should play a leading role now that she is fully race fit.

LEICESTER

7.10   INJURED JOCKEYS FUND 50TH ANNIVERSARY FILLIES HANDICAP — 7 FURLONGS 9YDS

Maria Bella did the job nicely when winning on her seasonal reappearance at Kempton. There is almost certainly more to come from this daughter of Raven’s Pass and having been placed at this track in the past she has to be high on any shortlist.

Ryan Moore is a positive jockey booking by Charlie Appleby and the combination will be hard beat. Having already seen off the likes of Dutch S, La Tinta Bay, Miss Atomic Bomb and Rekdhat she should be able to confirm that form now she is at peak fitness.

Swift Campaign provided somewhat of a shock when defying a massive price at Newmarket. That run clearly surprised quite a few including her trainer John Gosden. He had a more fancied runner in Belle D’or that finished runner-up on that occasion. She will have come on a lot for that experience and now makes her first attempt in this company. She looks the most likely threat to the selection with William Buick on board.

Chutney seemed to be on her way back to form when fourth of nine behind Spring Fling at Windsor last time. Cam Hardie is a useful apprentice who is able to take seven pounds off her back and she too can make the frame. Charlie Appleby and Ryan Moore can enhance their excellent individual records at this track tonight with Maria Bella.

DONCASTER

4.45   BETDAQ NO PREMIUM CHARGE HANDICAP — 1 M 6 F 132 YDS

Dovil’s Date has proved that he is capable of winning races under both codes and did so on the flat with the minimum of fuss at Lingfield last time. He managed to put some six lengths between himself and the runner up suggesting that there was plenty more to come. That was his first run on the level in almost two years and with David Probert keeping the ride, the duo can go close again.

Teak may prove the best of his rivals. He returned to winning ways at Pontefract last Sunday and if turning up here he could prove the biggest danger. Ronaldinho and Rosie Rebel are both useful rivals who are engaged to run. Both would be seen to better effect on rain softened ground and they are passed over on this occasion. Dovil’s Date will certainly not mind the predicted fast ground and he can continue the excellent form of the Tim Vaughan yard.
