WEDNESDAY
KEMPTON
6-10 32RED.COM HANDICAP – 1 M 2 F
Archie’s Advice couldn’t cope with the added distance at this track last time so it is interesting to see him drop back down to his favourite trip. He is a dual course and distance winner in recent months and he has won with Joe Fanning in the saddle before. Keith Dalgleish has a decent strike rate at this track and connections will want to recoup losses from that latest effort. He remains only four pounds higher than what he has ever won off in the past and it is worth remembering that he himself is still only a four year old and that last run can easily be forgiven.
Dalaki sets the form standard here as the tree horses he beat last time out have all come out to frank the form subsequently. Gabrial The Duke, Aldeburgh and City Of Angkor Wat have all triumphed in their subsequent races indicating that he could be a horse to follow. It is worth remembering that he is not proven at this trip and that has to be taken into consideration.
Brave Decision ran well over this trip at Chelmsford City last month. He has been a model of consistency throughout the winter months and ought to be in right in the mix at the finish given that he is receipt of weight from all of his rivals. Archie’s Advice has had over a month to recover from his latest exertions and if back on song he looks the one to be on this time around.
7-10 10 FREE BET AT 32REDSPORT.COM HANDICAP – 6 FURLONGS
Strategic Force was all at sea when dropped to the minimum trip at Wolverhampton last month. This return to six furlongs ought to bring about an improved performance on what is beginning to look like his best track. In his last three efforts over this course and distance he has won twice and finished second. Adam Kirby clearly gets on well with this four year old son of Strategic Prince having secured the gelding’s two career successes to date.
Pour La Victoire is a useful sort having won between distances of five and seven furlongs in the past. Luke Morris was on board for his most recent win at Wolverhampton and retains the ride this evening. They are set to receive weight all around tonight and look the biggest threat despite running off a career high mark.
Salvatore Fury is another that likes a synthetic surface and has also won over this course and distance in the past. Like the selection, this return to six furlongs will be better suited to him and Joe Fanning rides hopes to gain a first win on him since June 2013. Triple Chocolate may just need the run on what will be his first in almost five months. The Clive Cox yard seem to be creeping back into form and Strategic Force looks destined to go close.
THURSDAY
HUNTINGDON
3-15 LAFARGE TARMAC ‘ASPHALT TO GO’ NOVICES CHASE – 2 MILES 110 YDS
Mountain King has been a bit slow to come to hand this year but this looks a decent opportunity to get his career back on track. He returns to the same trip where he was a three time winner for Philip Hobbs last season and having failed to stay further in recent outings he should appreciate the step back in distance. He has won on soft and heavy ground in the past and with Richard Johnson the only jockey to have won on him the duo should prove a formidable combination.
Sgt Reckless was completely outclassed when lining up against the likes of Faugheen and co at Kempton on Boxing Day. He was subsequently given an outing on the polytrack at Lingfield a few weeks later and readily dismissed a field of disappointing sorts including Millionaire’s Row and Belrog.
AP McCoy looks a significant jockey booking by Mick Channon and the pair look the biggest threat to the selection. This looks too hot for the likes of Madame De Guise and both Pure Oxygen and Sea Current have it all to prove at present. Mountain King should be at peak fitness this time around and it will be a big disappointment if he cannot turn in a decent effort here.
FRIDAY
EXETER
5-20 GOODNIGHT BUD HANDICAP CHASE – 3 MILES
Barton Heather was an easy winner over a slightly shorter trip last time but ought to have no problem with this extra couple of furlongs today. Two of her three career wins have come when there is plenty of give in the ground and with many of these rivals out of form it would be of little surprise if she were to go in again. Mark Quinlan is set to retain the ride on the six year old and the duo have to be high on any shortlist.
Roll The Dice in fairness has been in good form all season and has a string of placed efforts to his credit. He was beaten less than a length over further a couple of runs back and with the Philip Hobbs team in great shape he looks to be the most obvious of dangers. Newton Thistle is a rapidly improving type and the last two times he has run at this trip he has proved successful. If allowed to take his chance he too could well have a say in the finish. Neil Mulholland does well with the limited number of horses that he trains and with his runner being the youngest in this line-up there could well be further improvement to come.
