Mid-week Betting: Boherna Lady poised for strong run at Towcester

Our tipster Karl Hedley provides the odds for the week’s races

WEDNESDAY

KEMPTON

5-10 BETDAQ – NO PREMIUM CHARGE MAIDEN FILLIES STAKES (DIV 1) – 1 MILE

Waldnah can make the most of her runs to shed her maiden status at the third time of asking. She bumped into a more experienced sort when outpointed by Stay Silent at Wolverhampton last time and she has to command utmost respect now that she is returning to Kempton where she already has proven track experience. She was beaten only half a length here on her racecourse debut and with Robert Havlin riding for the third time in succession, they ought to prove very tough to pass.

Taffzin looks the main danger to the selection. She was only just outdone by Irish Rookie in a Newmarket maiden a few weeks ago. That form has been well advertised since by Martyn Meade’s youngster who made the most of a rise in grade to win again last weekend.

Saeed Bin Suroor ought to have a good handle on the form of the selection as he trained Stay Silent to beat her last time out. He relies on Alhania this time around and whilst she could be anything, she lacks vital track experience. Fey is another Godolphin runner that is likely to improve for the outing and is one to watch. Waldnah is bred to be fully effective at this trip and she is likely to make her presence known in no uncertain terms.

7-40 WIN 10 MILLION ON THE BETDAQ COLUSSUS HANDICAP - 7 FURLONGS

Sir Robert Cheval has run well on his last two outings at Doncaster and Ascot in solid handicap races. He finished second on both occasions and Martin Harley was on board for both of those efforts. He is once again booked to ride this evening and the combination has to be feared now that they are returning to a synthetic surface. Sir Robert Cheval’s only career to date has come on the polytrack and that was over this trip last year at Lingfield.

Khatiba is the obvious threat to the selection. He has run here on three previous occasions and has never finished outside of the first two places. Graham Lee takes over in the saddle for the first time this evening and whilst this is a step up in grade he fully deserves to take his chance. Musaddas drops back to seven furlongs having been found out over further in recent runs. Despite proving hard to win with all of his best form has come on this type of surface and he is a solid each way proposition. Sir Robert Cheval remains far from exposed and Marco Botti has his team in good form. He is still on a decent looking mark and he looks set to run well.

THURSDAY

TOWCESTER

1-10 HAYGAIN HAY STEAMERS CLEAN HEALTHY MARES HANDICAP HURDLE – 2 M 3 F

Boherna Lady made a wining debut on what was her first start for Fergal O’ Brien. That came at Worcester over an extra two furlongs but clearly the change of yard has brought about some improvement. That was her first win in fifteen starts and now that she has gained some confidence she can go close once again. Paddy Brennan is set to retain the ride on this six year old daughter of Shantou and with stamina in abundance they are likely to make a bold bid.

Epee Celeste has won three races since the beginning of the year and including once at this track. She wasn’t beaten all that far at Huntingdon on her most recent start and she is likely to pose most problems for the selection. She is still well handicapped on the best of her old form and has stamina in abundance. Neil Mulholland has his yard in excellent shape so Barton Heather also has to command respect and has an each way claim. Boherna Lady still has youth on her side and comes here in the form of her life. She looks the one to beat in a race that may not take much winning.

FRIDAY

MUSSELBURGH

2-00 BERT LOGAN YOUR GO TO BOOKMAKER HANDICAP HURDLE – 3 MILES

Oscar Rock is scheduled to make his seasonal debut this afternoon. Whilst he may have failed to win a race last year for current connections but he was placed in both Grade One and Grade Two races at Haydock and Newbury. He was a very talented novice hurdler when trained by Harry Fry and with the ground likely to be in his favour this afternoon he has to be high on any shortlist.

Landecker has won two of his last three starts and has to rate as a danger from an in form yard. He comes here fully race-fit and he will appreciate genuine good ground. Wyse Hill Teabags is a dual course winner and is likely to try and make all as he has done in his previous races. This is his first run since May and his fitness has to be taken on trust.

Jim Goldie likes to have winners here and he too has to be considered. Oscar Rock should still have plenty of potential to unlock and there is a fair chance that he bumped into a decent type in Sausalito Sunrise at Perth last time. It will be very disappointing if he cannot get back to winning ways this afternoon.
