Megan Connolly joins Bristol City

Republic of Ireland defender Megan Connolly has joined ç ahead of the new Women's Super League season. The Cork native joins the 2022/23 Championship winners for the upcoming campaign.

The 26-year-old joins the club from Brighton & Hove Albion. The Ireland star had been at the club since 2019 following her move from the American club, the Florida State Seminoles.

Connolly was present for all of Ireland's games in the Women's World Cup this year and was one of Vera Pauw's first names on the team sheet. She has 43 senior international caps to her name.

Expressing her enthusiasm about the move, Connolly said, "I am truly thrilled to be here at Bristol. After engaging in discussions with Lauren Smith, our manager, earlier this summer, stepping onto this ground feels incredibly satisfying.

"The team's reputation and the camaraderie within the squad preceded my arrival, and that was a pivotal factor for me. Uniting such a strong sense of togetherness is an invaluable asset. In the upcoming season, every match will be a battle, and this unity will be paramount."

Connolly also noted her plans to bring her experience to the club. "I aspire to be a guiding force, akin to my role at Brighton. My dedication has always been towards being a dependable team player and a valuable contributor, propelling the collective forward," she added.

Bristol's new signing will also team up with Ireland teammate Chloe Mustaki for the new season.

Connolly's new team will start their WSL campaign at home against Leicester City on October 1. That game kicks off at 2pm.
