RORY McIlroy may soon be eclipsed by the likes of a new Northern Irish World Golf Champion.
Newtownabbey native Tom McKibbin won the U12 World Junior Championships on Sunday at Pinehurst, North Carolina.
He took to Twitter to share his delight and wrote, “I did it! I’m the World Champion.”
The young golfer shot rounds of 69-75-73 and claims victory almost a month after securing eighth place in the Press Thornton Future Masters Golf Tournament, held at Dothan Country Club, Alabama.
The Belfast Royal Academy pupil has already caught the eye of fellow Northern Irish championship golfer Graeme McDowell, who recently gave him access-all-areas passes to both The Open and the Irish Open.
