McCabe reveals 'pride' in reaching 200 Arsenal games

Ireland captain and Arsenal star Katie McCabe posted a thank-you message on social media after making her 200th appearance for the Arsenal women's team this weekend.

McCabe helped the Gooners beat Manchester City 2-1 in the Women's Super League on Sunday and shortly after, she posted a message via her Instagram:

"What a way to celebrate 200 Arsenal appearances with a big win at home with our supporters," said the post on Instagram.

"200 games in, and I still feel that same pride every time I put on that shirt.

"Proud of the girls today; we will never give up!"

The win now means Arsenal are fifth in the WSL table, three points behind table-toppers Chelsea.

McCabe has been at the club since 2015 after moving from Dublin. The Tallaght native has gone from being an unknown in football to becoming one of the most well-known faces in English football.

The Ireland captain played a stellar role in Ireland's World Cup debut campaign, scoring their only goal against Canada. She also scored a hat-trick against Albania in the 5-1-win last week. That same week, she was also nominated for the prestigious Ballon d'Or award, making her the first Irish footballer since Roy Keane in 2000 to be nominated for the award.

“It doesn’t feel real, to be honest,” she said last week on being nominated.

“When Jonas (Eidevall, Arsenal’s manager) told me before our Champions League game in Sweden, I didn’t know whether I was getting called in because I wasn’t going to play or something.

“He said a lot of kind words and how proud he was. It did take me by surprise because being from Ireland, a Dublin girl, you don’t get nominated for the Ballon d’Or.”

Arsenal's next game will be against Leicester City on Sunday night. The game kicks off at 6:45pm
