A Russian man has filed for divorce after fighting with his wife over whether Lionel Messi is better than Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to Moscow newspaper Argumenty i Fakty, the football-mad couple — named only as Arsen and Lyudmila — fell out when Arsen celebrated Argentina’s victory over Nigeria on June 26.
Arsen packed up his things and left his wife of 14 years after she continued to insist that Portugal star Ronaldo was a superior talent to Messi.
He said: "She told me that from the beginning of this World Cup, Messi didn't know how to play.
"She mocked Messi and said he couldn’t even score a penalty against Iceland.
“I could not contain myself and told her what I thought about the vain Ronaldo, the Portuguese national team and all the clubs she likes".
Arsen added: “Then I took my belongings and left her forever.”
Ironically, Arsen and Lyudmila met and fell in love at a bar during the 2002 World Cup.
After leaving his wife, Arsen headed straight to the Chelyabinsk Courthouse in the Ural mountains to request a divorce.
Talk about irreconcilable differences!
