Man accused of injuring Irish Liverpool fan Sean Cox admits violent disorder charge

A MAN accused of injuring Irish Liverpool fan Sean Cox has admitted a charge of violent disorder.

Mr Cox, 53, was placed in an induced coma after being attacked close to Anfield Stadium ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League first leg tie against Roma on April 24.

The Meath native has reportedly regained consciousness after being transferred back to Ireland following five weeks of treatment in Liverpool.

The BBC reports that Filippo Lombardi, 21, admitted the charge of being part of a group who used or threatened unlawful violence before the game.

However he denies wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm on the Irishman.

Lombardi has been remanded in custody ahead of his trial next month.

He had originally denied violent disorder but changed his plea at a pre-trial review hearing at Preston Crown Court.

In May, Daniele Sciusco, 29, pleaded guilty to a charge of violent disorder and was last month sentenced to two-and-a-half years.

Liverpool meanwhile paid tribute to Mr Cox during a preseason friendly in Dublin last month.
