‘I love my fans dearly’ – Conor McGregor breaks silence after arrest in Miami

CONOR MCGREGOR has broken his silence after he was arrested in Miami for allegedly smashing and stealing a fan's phone.

The Irish UFC star, 30, has been charged with strong-arm robbery and criminal mischief after an incident outside the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel at around 5.20am local time (9.20am GMT) on Monday.

He was tracked down and arrested at 6pm (10pm GMT) on Monday night but was released from custody on bail after posting his $12,500 bond, and has since issued a short statement on his Instagram.

Alongside a photo of himself leaving the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in the south Florida city, McGregor wrote: "Patience in this world is a virtue I continue to work on.

"I love my fans dearly. Thank you all."

According to the Miami Beach Police report about his arrest, McGregor allegedly reacted with anger when a 22-year-old man attempted to snap a photo of him outside his hotel.

The police report reads: "The defendant slapped the victim's phone out of his hand, causing it to fall to the floor.

"The defendant then stomped on the victim's phone several times, damaging it.

"The defendant then picked up the victim's phone and walked away with it, depriving him of it. The defendant was located and arrested."

The alleged victim's phone was valued at $1,000 (€890/£760), police added.

McGregor's arraignment will take place at Miami-Dade Circuit Court in three weeks.

The Crumlin native is reportedly in Florida to celebrate his mother Margaret's 60th birthday and to prepare for his UFC comeback after losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov of Russia in October 2018.
