This year’s captain, Lorcan Mulvey, chats to Niall O'Sullivan ahead of London's SFC clash with Galway on Sunday. He received the county’s first ever All-Star nomination last season.
You have had some injuries during the league this year. Do you think you will be able to replicate your All-Star form from last year’s championship campaign in 2014?
Hopefully. I have struggled a bit this year with injuries, but when the Championship comes around injuries magically disappear. Whatever way I am I will give it my all.
If I do not last the full 70 then I don’t last the 70. But hopefully there will be other guys who will stand up this year and some of the younger lads in particular.
Is there anybody you are hoping will step up?
There are a lot of lads playing very well and I think Joe Feeney is moving particularly well in training, so I am expecting a lot from him.
Has the league performance taken much out of the team?
Initially there was a bit of disappointment, but I think we have gotten over that. We are well into our Championship preparations now. Also we had a weekend away just ourselves in Meath and spoke about a lot of things.
I think our expectations for the league were probably unrealistic with the way we can prepare for things over here. Traditionally London have been a Championship team and we intend to keep it that way.
How has your role changed now that you have been made captain?
It does not really change what I have been doing. There is a massive amount of experience in the panel. I am captain but there are another five or six players who could have been made captain.
