FOOTBALL SUPPORTERS are well known for taking hit songs on the radio and twisting the words to fit them into football chants and some the chants can be incredibly catchy.
Take for example Liverpool's 'The Egyptian King" chant that's sang on the terraces of the Kop every time Salah scores.
The lyric's “Mo Salah! Mo Salah! Mo Salah! Running down the wing. “Mo Salah la-la-la la-ahh, The Egyptian King! are sang in the same vein as the 1990 classic 'Oh Sit Down’ by James.
The lyrics to the original go, "Oh, sit down, Oh, sit down, Oh, sit down. Sit down next to me."
Manchester United also turned Abba's famous Gimme, Gimme into a chant about former forward Edinson Cavani
GIVE IT GIVE IT GIVE IT TO EDI CAVANI JUST PASSSS HIM THE BALL & WATCH HIM SCORE ALL THE GOAAALSSSS," were the lyrics sang in the 2021/2022 season.
Many people will argue what is the best football chant and the debate will forever rumble on, but that debate can finally come to end thanks to singer Ellie Dixon's song about Celtic's Jota.
The Cambridge native had the genius idea to turn the famous Euro pop classic Dragostea Din Tei by O-Zone into a song about Celtic's star player Jota.
For a refresh of the lyrics to the original, they go like this, Vrei să pleci dar nu mă, nu mă iei, Nu mă, nu mă iei, nu mă, nu mă, nu mă iei, Chipul tău și dragostea din tei.
Dixon's rendition was originally featured on BBC Radio 5 Live and went like this," When you score you make the Celtic sing, Jota on the wing, Jota, Jota on the wing, every time you’re on the ball we know, there’s gonna be a goal, Our superstar from Portugal. "
The clip and song have gone viral on social media and if you are a die-hard fan Celtic, it's fair to say Ellie has produced a belter for the Glasgow club.
The song racked up over 300,000 views across Twitter, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube since it was uploaded before Celtic's 2-1 over Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday and that number has only increased since then.
Celtic's social media account shared a clip of Jota holding the cup with the song in the background and it went down a treat with Celtic fans after the win.
One user said," @CelticFC get a Jota jersey sent to Ellie!"
While another said, "Need to make this available to download. Just 100k Celtic fans could get this to no1 in the UK charts."
Jota himself has also given props to Dixon for her efforts.
She shared it across her social media pages, including with her 208k followers on Instagram.
Jota commented on the post from his official Instagram account, saying: "This is special. Much love
Ellie replied: "Thanks for inspiring the song and congrats on the win yesterday!!
I promise you that you won't be able to get this song out of your head when you hear it, and we are not complaining.
