Limerick swimmer secures Olympic spot

LIMERICK swimmer Fiona Doyle has enjoyed a successful two days, after securing both an Olympic spot and a bronze medal at the World University Games.

The 23-year-old from Raheen had booked her place at the 2016 Games in Rio in Sunday’s 100m breaststroke semi-final at the tournament in South Korea.

On Monday, she went on to claim third place in the final, swimming a personal best time of 1.07.15 and setting a new Irish senior record.

Doyle, who is a student at the University of Calgary, Canada, has become one of Ireland’s best swimmers in recent years.

She narrowly missed out on the London Olympic Games in 2012, but went on to win Silver in the 100m Breaststroke at the World University Games in Kazan a year later.
