Leinster and Munster will lock horns in Croke Park again

Leinster and Munster fans will have a chance to see their interprovincial derby in Croke Park later this year.

It was confirmed this week that, due to renovation works taking place at Leinster's traditional URC home ground, the RDS in Croke Park is being lined up to host the blockbuster event.

Leinster will play the vast majority of their games at the Aviva Stadium next year, but for their second game of the new campaign, the team will face Munster in the 82,000-seater stadium.

The Irish province said this week, "Leinster Rugby can this morning confirm that the BKT United Rugby Championship game against Munster Rugby will be hosted in Croke Park on Saturday, October 12 (KO: 5.45 pm).

"The game is Leinster’s second home game of the new URC season and will see Leinster host Munster at the home of the GAA for the first time since the Champions Cup semi-final in 2009, when Leinster won in front of over 82,000 spectators.

"Leinster Rugby will be playing URC and Champions Cup games outside of the RDS Arena from September, as the RDS is undergoing refurbishment. As a result, the majority of home games in the 2024–25 season will be played at Aviva Stadium, with a number of games designated for Croke Park."

This news also follows Leinster's Champions Cup semi-final against Northampton Saints at the famous stadium, where Leinster emerged victorious but were unable to win the Heineken Cup after losing to Toulouse in the final.

Before this, Leinster's last game against Munster in Croke Park was in 2009, where Leinster bested Munster in the Champions Cup semi-final.

Tickets for the game against Munster Rugby will go on public sale on Friday, August 30, 2024.
