Kilkenny GAA fan gets a superb reward after her kind gesture towards a defeated Waterford hurler melts hearts

WATERFORD hurler Pauric Mahony has rewarded a young Kilkenny fan whose kind gesture became a social media sensation with one of his own.

In the wake of last weekend's devastating defeat for the Déise in the All-Ireland semi-final reply, Cats fan Jennifer Malone was caught on camera trying to console the wing forward after his side crashed out of the Senior Hurling Championship.

The 17-year-old's post-match gesture - a consoling hug - has since become a social media sensation and Jennifer somewhat of a local celebrity.

On Tuesday, Karen Dempsey from the Waterford supporters' club Club Déise presented Jennifer with a signer hurley, a jersey from Pauric, as well as a signed photo of the Déise star.

Jennifer, who will be on RTÉ with Miriam O'Callaghan this weekend, has also been promised a signed jersey by Dublin fans.

Last Saturday in Thurles, Jennifer joined thousands of others in cheering on an enthralling game of hurling.

Kilkenny clinched the epic contest on a scoreline of 2-19 to 2-17, leaving Jennifer and other Cats fans delighted.

But as fans flooded the pitch Jennifer noticed that the star man for the opposition Pauric Mahony was upset.

She stopped and gave him a hug.

The gesture, which was caught by Sky Sports cameras, has been broadcast all over social media as GAA fans at home and abroad lauded the wonderful act of kindness.
