OXFORD UNITED winger Olamide Shodipo scored his 11th goal of the season on Tuesday night, in a 3-0 victory over Doncaster.
Shodipo was born in Leixlip, and is currently on loan at Oxford from Queens Park Rangers.
The 23-year-old moved to London when he was two years old, and first represented Ireland at U19 level, before winning six caps for the U21s under Noel King.
Last year, QPR extended his contract until the summer of 2022, so it's clear the Championship club rate him highly.
Speakng about Shodipo when he signed, Oxford manager Karl Robinson praised his trickery and pace, which are two things Ireland could really do with more of.
Robinson said: "He is an exciting player to watch, very unpredictable but always a threat because he has so much pace and a willingness to take people on."
Based on his current form and skillset, it may not be beyond the realms of possibility for him to get called up by Stephen Kenny for our international games later this month.
Meanwhile, another promising youngster made his first start in the Championship on Tuesday night for Derby County.
19-year-old Louie Watson started for Derby in an impressive 2-2 draw against Brentford, with manager Wayne Rooney being very impressed with him over the past few weeks.
