Kiely speaks on 'devastating' Peter Casey injury

Limerick manager John Kiely has claimed that Peter Casey's injury is devastating after the Na Piarsaigh player was stretchered off the pitch in Limerick's SHC round-robin win against Tipperary at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Casey injured himself after scoring a 53rd-minute goal to send Limerick into a 15-point lead. At full-time, Limerick won 2-27 to 0-18, but it will be Casey's leg injury that will be most concerning for Kiely and Limerick fans going into the next number of games.

The 27-year-old was taken to the hospital after, and Kiely said, “Devastation for Peter."

"Nobody wants to see anybody get injured on any team, but he is one of ours. Obviously, it’s a significant injury. We will look after him the very best way that we can."

Kiely has also said that Casey will get the best treatment and care possible and will be ready for him when he comes back.

“We will make sure that he gets the best treatment. He has come back from a serious injury before and has come back very strong. I have no doubt that Peter has the capacity to do that again. We would rather not have to see him do that.

“It hurts. It hurts the group very much to see that it has happened. We will rally around him and give him every bit of assistance that we can. For the group, it’s a case of moving on.

“He is an incredible talent. He can do it in the air or on the ground. He has a fantastic hurling brain. He has always stacked up with really great plays for us. We look forward to seeing him take to the pitch again down the road.”
