'What about the Irish language?' - Khabib Nurmagomedov takes aim at Irish Conor McGregor fans

CONOR MCGREGOR'S UFC 229 opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov found a new way to antagonise the Notorious' fans ahead of their hotly-anticipated showdown.

Speaking during an open workout held ahead of Saturday's mouthwatering MMA encounter between the pair in Las Vegas, the Russian took to the mic to direct a series of questions at the Irish fans in attendance.

Evidently in no mood to make friends over in the Emerald Isle, Nurmagomedov decided to direct a series of provocative questions at McGregor's Irish followers.

In the Russian's defence, those fans present at the workout had spent much of the time openly mocking the fighter, so it wasn't a huge surprise to see him retaliate.

His comments are unlikely to endear him to any Irish MMA fans though, while McGregor is unlikely to be impressed either.

The Russian spent the majority of his diatribe making multiple references to the fact the Gaelic language isn't the dominant mother tongue of Ireland anymore.

He also attempted to incite anger among the Notorious fans assembled there, by highlighting Ireland's and McGregor's ties to the English.

Nurmagomedov said: "In three days. In three days you're going to like me. I have a question for Ireland. What about your language? What about the Irish language? Where is your language right now?"

"You guys change it? Please someone give me an answer? Are you guys with England right now?

"This guy [Conor] talks them fighting against the English but his grandfather Christopher McGregor was in the English navy."

The talk between the pair will soon come to an end.

UFC 229 is taking place this Saturday, October 6th, in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It will be broadcast on BT Sport 1 at 3am on Sunday, October 7th, BST.
