Keith Rossiter set to become the next Wexford senior hurling manager

Keith Rossiter is set to take over from Darragh Egan as the new Wexford senior hurling manager. Rossiter, hailing from Oulart-The Ballagh, has been leading the county's Under-20 hurling team for the past two seasons.

Under his guidance, the team successfully reached consecutive Leinster finals. His appointment to the position is expected to be officially confirmed later this month, and he will hold the role for a three-year term.

Rossiter boasts a strong connection with Wexford, having represented the county for over ten years. He was an integral part of the 2004 Leinster-winning squad. Notably, he has previously served as a selector for both Davy Fitzgerald and the departing Darragh Egan, who held the senior hurling manager role for two seasons.

A statement read, “Wexford GAA wish to announce that Keith Rossiter will be proposed by the Selection Committee as the new Wexford Senior Hurling Manager on a three-year term.

“Keith was manager of Wexford’s U20 Hurling Team for the past two seasons, guiding the team to successive Leinster Finals, while he previously served as a selector with our senior hurling team from 2017 to 2021. As a player, Keith represented Wexford at senior level for more than a decade and was a member of the squad that won the Leinster title in 2004. He also tasted significant success with his club, Oulart-The Ballagh, winning ten Wexford Senior Hurling titles (including two as captain) and one Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship.

“His nomination, and that of his backroom, will be put forward for ratification at the next meeting of the County Committee, scheduled for Tuesday, 29 August 2023.

“Ar Aghaidh Linn Le Chéile (Onwards Together).”

The 2023 season proved to be challenging for Wexford, as they managed to secure only one victory in the league. They narrowly avoided relegation to the Joe McDonagh Cup. One of the low points of the season was a surprising defeat to Westmeath in the Leinster Championship, which saw them finish fourth in the group stages.

The team concluded their campaign on a positive note, securing a spirited victory over Kilkenny, who had already secured a spot in the provincial final. This marked Egan's final match as the head of the team.
