ROY Keane is likely to resume talks with Aston Villa with a view to becoming their assistant manager after he returns from Ireland’s two-game US summer tour.
The Irish Post understands that the 42-year-old has had a conversation with the Midlands club about becoming Villa manager Paul Lambert's number two, but that nothing has yet been confirmed.
Accepting the role at Aston Villa would enable Keane to become involved in the management of both the Premier League club and continue on his role with Ireland.
Keane joined Ireland manager Martin O’Neill and his squad as they flew to the US yesterday for a week-long trip that will include friendly fixtures against Costa Rica tomorrow (June 6) at PPL Park in Philadelphia and Portugal four days later at Met Life Stadium, New Jersey.
It is unlikely that a decision will be reached whilst Keane is away on international duty.
It was confirmed on Tuesday evening that the Cork man would not be heading to Brazil after pulling out from his ITV punditry role, further increasing speculation that he is on the verge of becoming Paul Lambert’s assistant.
Lambert's former assistants Ian Culverhouse and Gary Karsa were sacked last month following the club's internal investigations.
On Monday the FAI confirmed that Keane had decided against becoming the new manager of Glasgow-based club Celtic, and that he would be travelling with Ireland to the US.
