Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano's huge fight last April has been nominated for fight of the year in Ring Magazine

THE FIGHT BETWEEN KATIE TAYLOR AND AMANADA SERRANO last April has been nominated for 'fight of the year' by boxing publication Ring Magazine.

Taylor and the Puerto Rican Serrano became the first female fighters to headline the famous Madison Square Garden venue last April. The fight was described as the 'biggest women's fight of all time'.

Taylor went onto to defeat Serrano by split decision on the night to retain her lightweight titles and undefeated record

The fight has already won, Fight of the Year, BBC Fight of the Year, CBS Fight of the Year, ESPN Fight of the Year, ESPN Event of the Year and Sporting News Fight of The Year already and could now win Ring Magazine's award.

Another Irish fighter's fight nominated is Michael Conlan

His World title clash against Leigh Woods in Nottingham last summer is also up for the award. That fight won Boxing Writers’ Association of America as their fight of the year.

Conlan fell through the ropes and reportedly was rendered unconscious for "a minute or two at the time. He was quickly taken to hospital, Conlan since has said he is "all good" and his scans were "clear"

Whoever wins the award will be in esteemed company. The likes of the late Muhammed Ali have won it a record six times.

An all-female fight has never scooped the award. The winner will be announced on Friday.
