Ireland's captain, Katie McCabe, scored an absolute screamer for the Republic of Ireland Women's team during their game against Canada.
The goal came just four minutes into the group stage fixture against the reigning Olympic Champions. As Ireland won a corner, McCabe, who is a star player for Arsenal, took the corner kick, skillfully whipped the ball in, and managed to get it over the hapless Canadian keeper, putting Ireland in the lead 1-0.
This goal was significant as it marked Ireland's first-ever goal at a Women's World Cup. Understandably, fans both in Ireland and abroad were quick to comment on this iconic moment. Even MMA star Conor McGregor took notice, saying, "Iconic moment in Irish football just now! The ladies running the show! Scored from the corner WOW! Captain McCabe!"

Other individuals also shared their thoughts on the amazing strike. One Twitter user said, "Make Katie McCabe president immediately." The goal elicited sheer excitement from others as well, with one person mentioning, "Amazing! Watching with four 10-year-old boys and they are screaming their heads off in delight!" Another fan expressed their admiration, stating, "I love Katie McCabe!!! What a player!!"
Despite their excellent performance, Ireland was unfortunate to not enter the dressing room with a 1-0 lead, as Megan Connolly's own goal in stoppage time resulted in a 1-1 scoreline. Nonetheless, the second half of the game is set to begin shortly.
