Justin McNulty to take up role wtih Laois senior footballers

Justin McNulty will take up a second stint with the Laois senior footballers. The SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh was recommended for a three-year term with O'Moore County.

He replaces Billy Sheehan, who stepped down in July after two seasons in the role.

McNulty, in 2011, first helped Laois gain promotion to Division 1 of the Allianz League and an All-Ireland SFC quarter-final appearance in 2012.

Recent times have not been so fruitful for the county, though. Laois failed to get out of Division 4 last season, losing out on the head-to-head rule with Wicklow. However, they responded by reaching the last four of the Tailteann Cup where they let in eight goals against Down.

McNulty will be ratified next week, with his coaching team to be confirmed after this.

“Laois GAA are pleased to announce that Justin McNulty is to be recommended for the position of Laois Senior Football Manager on a 3-year term,” the statement read.

“An All-Ireland winner with his county, Armagh, in 2002, Justin brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has previously managed Laois, gaining promotion to Division 1 in 2011 and guiding them to the All-Ireland quarter-finals in 2012.

“Justin will work with the County Board and players’ leadership group to finalise the coaching team over the coming weeks.

“We look forward to working with the players and coaching team and wish them the very best of luck over the coming seasons.”
