Jose Enrique: ' Arsenal are not failures, Man City are just too powerful'

Former Liverpool player Jose Enrique believes that Arsenal should not be too hard on themselves, as Manchester City are an exceptionally talented football side.

Arsenal, at one stage of the season, held an 8-point lead over Pep Guardiola's team. However, after relinquishing leads against Liverpool and West Ham, they began to crumble.

A heavy defeat against Manchester City, a disappointing draw against Southampton and West Ham, and losses to Brighton and Nottingham Forest led to City being crowned champions for the fifth time in six seasons under Guardiola.

Despite blowing the lead, Enrique does not believe that Mikel Arteta's side should be labeled as "bottlers," and he thinks more people should give credit to City.

"Arsenal were definitely title contenders. I thought Arsenal were going to win the league, but it just shows how great Pep and Man City are. Liverpool has faced a similar situation in the past, competing against Man City for so long. One minute they are behind you, and the next they are above you in the League," said the Spaniard to safebettingsites.com.

"I thought that Arsenal had left them behind, but they didn't win for four games in a row and threw away the league. Many people have said that Arsenal should be disappointed, but if you had told them at the beginning of the season that they would finish second, I think they would take it. However, I do understand if the players were disappointed not to win the league."

Arsenal's last game of the season will be against Wolves on Sunday, while City will play Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday. They will then close out the campaign on Sunday against Brentford.
