FREE agent Joey Barton has ruled out any suggestions that a move to the League of Ireland could be on the cards.
The former Manchester City and Newcastle United midfielder said in a Twitter Q&A that he would rather retire than head across the Irish Sea.
Barton, 32, was released by Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season, but said that he wouldn’t follow in the footsteps of ex-Newcastle teammate Damien Duff.
Would you ever play in the League of Ireland? #askjb

No. Probably retire. Unless of course I lost all my money in a Bernie Madoff style ponzi and had no other option. https://t.co/kXXasGQwbZ — Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) August 5, 2015
Ouch!. Irish soccer fans surely won't be too impressed with his response.
