Barry Robson believes that Aberdeen's new signing, Jamie McGrath, has the potential to inject a new lease of life into the club's midfield. The Republic of Ireland international midfielder signed a two-year deal with the Pittodrie club this week.
Despite being 26, McGrath found himself without a club as he chose to part ways with Wigan due to the club's financial turmoil. Having previously played for the likes of St Patrick’s, Dundalk, and St Mirren, and also for Dundee United, the Meath native is back in Scotland.
McGrath could be quickly thrown into the deep end for the club's first leg of the Europa Conference League play-off against Hacken in Sweden on Thursday if he is granted international clearance in time.
Speaking about the move on Aberdeen's official website, Robson, the manager, had this to say: "Jamie's not just any player; he's an international player who brings in-depth experience from the league. His knack for creativity, precision in his passes, and his ability to contribute crucial goals will definitely open up a thrilling new dimension in our midfield.
"Moreover, his attitude and approach are a perfect fit for our squad. We're really excited about having Jamie on board, and we're looking forward to giving him the platform to showcase his skills."
With eight caps for Ireland under his belt since his debut in 2021, McGrath becomes the tenth purchase in Aberdeen's summer transfer window this year.

The Ireland midfielder also admitted that he was just delighted to be able to play football again after his ordeal with Wigan.
“It was a difficult time at Wigan, and the summer hasn't been easy, but now I just want to get cracking with playing my football again. It took a few weeks to get things resolved, but once I knew Aberdeen was an option for me, I couldn't wait to get here," he added on the club's website
“I'm delighted with how things have worked out, and hopefully now I can get settled here, live in the city, and play some good football. I'm really looking forward to the two years ahead, and hopefully, it’s going to be successful. I've been close to coming here a couple of times over the years, and for whatever reason, it didn't happen before, but I'm absolutely delighted to be here now.
Having played at his new club as an opposing player, the Meath native is now looking forward to seeing what it's like from the other side of the coin.
“Obviously, I've played here before, and as a player, you always look forward to coming to Pittodrie, so the chance of playing there week in, week out is really exciting. To have that passion from the fans behind you as a home player, it's something that I will relish, and hopefully, I can repay the faith that the club has shown in me. I hope I can hit the ground running.”
