ASTON Villa’s Jack Grealish has not yet reached a decision over whether he will commit his long-term international future to Ireland or England.
The Birmingham-born teenager has represented Ireland through to U21 level, and will continue to do so for the time being as Ireland U21 boss Noel King today included him in his squad for their final game of the UEFA Championships Qualifying group against Germany.
But England have recently attempted to convince the midfielder to switch international teams.
Grealish is also in contention for regular first team club action and could be a key player for Paul Lambert's Aston Villa side, and with a busy season ahead the young player has asked for more time to consider his options.
During a press conference yesterday where O’Neill announced his provisional squad ahead of Ireland’s opening Euro 2016 qualifier with Georgia, he revealed that he had spoken to both Grealish and his father about committing his international future.
“I spoke to his father, I spoke to Jack. I think like anything else, he’s a young kid coming through with a lot of potential and I just think they just want to take a little bit of time,” said O’Neill.
“He’s got a number of options and he’s felt comfortable playing underage level but it’s a totally different thing to committing yourself to senior football.
“He’s got a lot of talent. He’s got taller. He’s got stronger the last couple of months. It was a decent conversation and I think I’ll just leave it at that at the moment.”
