IRELAND's Aileen Reid crossed the line to finish a superb second in the Grand Final of the ITU World Triathlon Series at Hyde Park on Saturday.
The Derry triathlete said, after her most consistent season yet, a silver medal in the year’s biggest event was “the icing on the cake”.
Reid finished 25 seconds behind Welsh winner Non Stanford, whose victory won her this year's World Championship title.
Reid went into the London leg in 11th place in the standings. Her runner-up finish in Hyde Park moved her up to eighth overall in the World Series.
Reid’s result was Ireland’s best ever finish in the competition.
“There was so much Irish support for the Olympics and again here today, there were Irish flags everywhere along the course,” a delighted Reid said.
