Irish soccer club Bohemians unveil bizarre Bob Marley-themed kit... to mixed reviews

DUBLIN soccer club Bohemian FC have unveiled their unique new away jersey for 2019, featuring an image of Bob Marley – 38 years after the reggae legend played a gig at their stadium.

The mostly white kit features three stripes with the traditional Rastafarian colours of red, yellow and green, as well as an embossed image of Marley's face underneath the aptly named sponsor 'Mr Green'.

Bohs will play in the strip for all their away matches in the 2019 SSE Airtricity League season, and fans can pre-order the shirt now.

Marley, who died aged 36 in 1981, played a gig at Dalymount Park less than a year prior on July 6, 1980.

Bohemians, who have seen a significant growth in attendances this year, said in a statement: "Dalymount Park has played a unique part – chiefly in the sporting – but also in the musical and cultural history of Ireland.

"The Home of Irish Football was graced in the 1970s by Thin Lizzy and the Boomtown Rats, in the 1980s by Bob Marley, Meatloaf and Black Sabbath, and in the 1990s by Faith No More, Sonic Youth, Ice Cube and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

"This jersey, designed by Bohemian FC in conjunction with our new kit supplier O’Neills, gives a nod to that history – and to the stadium’s special place in the hearts of both football and music fans."

There's been plenty of reaction to the new kit, including from other League of Ireland clubs – who couldn't help but mock the bizarre design.

Perhaps the best reply was from Sligo Rovers, who photoshopped their own kit with the members of Westlife emblazoned across the bottom.
