Shane Long scored his side’s second goal in Hull City’s 2-0 win at the KC Stadium against former club West Bromwich Albion. The Republic of Ireland striker also struck the post and won a penalty for the Tigers.
Everton defeated Swansea City 3-2 with Aiden McGeady making a rare start for the Toffees.
Stoke City were without midfielder Stephen Ireland - who has a clause in his contract preventing him from playing the Villans – but still recorded a 4-1 away win at Aston Villa. Marc Wilson and Glenn Whelan both started for the visitors.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Republic of Ireland international Jeff Hendrick netted his first goal of the season in Derby County's 5-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Mick McCarthy's Ipswich Town managed a 2-0 away win at Brighton and Hove Albion. Daryl Murphy took his tally to 10 league goals this season as Ipswich scored twice in the last 30 minutes to seal the three points, closing the gap between themselves and the playoffs to five points.
Former Shelbourne midfielder Kevin Dawson helped Yeovil Town move off the bottom of the table with a second goal for the Glovers in their 2-2 draw with Bolton Wanderers.
LEAGUE ONE
Dubliner Alan McCormack struck third for Brentford with a second-half lob as they defeated Coventry City 3-1.
Notts County remain at the bottom of the table despite a 4-1 win over Carlisle United. Ronan Murray was on target for the Magpies while Alan Sheehan also provided an assist. James Berrett was on target for Carlisle with a consolation goal.
LEAGUE TWO
Scunthorpe United climbed to second place with a 1-0 win over Burton Albion, after Republic of Ireland international Paddy Madden struck a volley from the edge of the area to seal his side an important win.
David Connolly helped Oxford United to cement their place in the playoffs by finding the net against Hartlepool United.
Morecambe claimed a draw with Northampton Town thanks to a 75th minute goal from Carlow native Padraig Amond.
SCOTLAND
Anthony Stokes was on form for Celtic as he scored his side’s third goal as they defeated St Mirren. Neil Lennon's side are edging closer to sealing the Scottish Premiership title with just four more points needed.
Adam Rooney opened the scoring for Aberdeen in their 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock with his seventh goal of the season. Willo Flood performed well in midfield for the Dons.
