Four Irish strikers are British football's top scorers

FOUR Irishmen in the top seven divisions in English and Scottish football are the top scorers in their respective leagues going into this weekend’s fixtures.

In League One, Leyton Orient’s David Mooney heads the chart with 13 goals this season.

Former Ireland Under-21 forward Rhys Murphy is top in League Two with nine strikes for Dagenham & Redbridge.

In Scotland, North of Ireland’s William McKay is top scorer in the Scottish Premier League, with 10 goals for Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

While Dubliner Jonathan Daly is joint-top marksman in Scotland’s League One, having scored 13 goals for Rangers this season.

That makes four Irishmen in the top seven divisions in England and Scotland.

In the Premiership, Irish strikers are way down the pecking order with Shane Long (West Brom) and Robbie Brady (Hull City) Ireland’s highest scorers with three goals apiece.

That’s in comparison to Manchester City’s Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero who is the Premiership’s top marksman with 10 goals.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s top striker Robbie Keane, is fourth in the MLS league with 16 goals, and third in assists (11).
