Irish footballer banned from Cheltenham Festival after unsavoury act

IRISH footballer Samir Carruthers has had his Cheltenham Festival reservation revoked after being pictured apparently urinating into a glass on the opening day of the event.

The MK Dons midfielder is also under investigation by his club after images of the said act emerged in The Sun, with fellow footballers James Collins of Northampton and Bristol City's Luke Ayling also under scrutiny.

Cheltenham Racecourse have now confirmed their reservation, which was booked under a sports management company, has been cancelled for Day Two of the Festival.

“In regards to images of inappropriate behaviour from yesterday, we have cancelled their booking for today,” a Tweet from Festival organisers confirmed on Wednesday.

In relation to Islington-born Ireland Under-21 international Carruthers, MK Dons said in a statement: "The club is aware of pictures circulating in the national media of one of its players at the Cheltenham Festival. The club has commenced an internal investigation into the matter."
