Irish boxer Paddy Barnes is head over heels as New York bike ride goes wrong

THEY say that once you learn to ride a bike, you never forget, so maybe Paddy Barnes never learnt.

The Irish boxer was in New York with his wife Mari for the New Year and decided to see the sights from the saddle.

The two-time Olympic bronze medallist might be able to cope with the intense heat in the ring, but the chilly Big Apple weather forced him to borrow his wife’s gloves.

Once sorted, Barnes was all set to show off his cycling skills only for disaster to strike.

Challenged by Mari to do a skid, Barnes found himself getting a closer view of New York than he probably anticipated.

The fighter appeared to take it in good humour however, sharing a clip of his fail on Instagram.

It wasn’t a great start to 2019 for Barnes after a disappointing 2018, however he is hopeful of landing another world title shot this year.

Last August he failed to win the WBC world flyweight title from champion Cristofer Rosales, in what was only his first professional defeat.

Meanwhile scheduling issues prevented the Belfast boxer from fighting Isaac Quaye on the Carl Frampton v Josh Warrington undercard in December.
