Ireland's Molumby charged with violent conduct by English FA

Ireland's Jayson Molumby has been charged with violent conduct following a pre-season friendly with Real Mallorca last month.

The 24-year-old Irish player and Mallorca's Samu Costa were involved in an altercation, during which Molumby struck Costa in the face. This incident led to a melee between both teams.

"West Bromwich Albion’s Jayson Molumby has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.1 following the pre-season friendly fixture against Real Mallorca on July 27, 2024," stated West Brom on their website.

Molumby has been given until August 9 to respond to the charge.

"It is alleged that the midfielder’s conduct during the fixture constituted violent conduct. He has until August 9, 2024, to respond to the charge," added the statement from West Brom.

Since signing from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, the Irish midfielder has become a regular for the Championship side. Molumby played 24 times for the Baggies last season, and his side narrowly missed out on promotion after losing 3-1 on aggregate in the play-off semi-finals to Southampton. He also has 24 caps for Ireland.

Albion have friendlies against Cambridge United and Birmingham City on Friday and Saturday before starting the new season with a trip to QPR on August 10.
