Ireland's Killian Phillips joins St Mirren on loan

Ireland's Killian Phillips has signed for Scottish side St Mirren from Crystal Palace. The deal to bring the Irish youngster back to Scotland includes a season-long loan with an obligation to buy next summer. The Kilbarrack native will be contracted to the club until the summer of 2026, with St. Mirren holding an option to extend for a further year.

This isn't the first time Phillips has spent time in Scotland. The 22-year-old spent the latter half of last season on loan at Aberdeen, where he played 13 times. Before this, he had spells at Shrewsbury Town and Wycombe Wanderers while on loan from Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Speaking about his new move, the Dubliner expressed his excitement about playing for the Saints.

"I'm buzzing. I spoke to the gaffer, and he sold the club to me. He told me about all the players that have come through St. Mirren and how he likes to develop players," said the Dubliner.

"I played here last season, and the ground was rocking. I know how passionate the fans are up here and how good the standard is, so it was something I wanted to experience again.

"I'm a box-to-box midfielder, and I'll always give 100 percent. It's been a long summer, but I'm delighted this deal is done and can't wait to get going."

St. Mirren manager Stephen Robinson also added that he likes what Phillips has to offer, which is why he wanted to bring him to St. Mirren Park.

"Killian is somebody we have looked at for a while," said Robinson.

"He needs a home and somewhere to settle. He’s still a young boy finding his way in his career, and we have to give him that home.

"He’ll improve with the coaching, but he has the physical attributes.

"He’s a big boy; he can run, and he’ll hopefully help provide goals for the team as well. With a couple of bumps and knocks in the midfield, it’s important we strengthen our numbers in there."
