IRELAND'S strikers are enjoying a good run of form in preparation for Friday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland at Celtic Park.
Shane Long, Jon Walters and Jeff Hendrick were on target for their respective clubs over the weekend, whilst across the Atlantic Robbie Keane found the back of the net for LA Galaxy.
Their recent performances in front of goal will be welcome news for Martin O’Neill, as he awaits assessments for Stoke defender Marc Wilson and Everton midfielder James McCarthy who both suffered hamstring injuries.
Long came off the bench to net both of Southampton’s goals in their 2-0 win over Leicester City, leading the Saints into second-place in the Premier League.
Stoke’s Walters scored in his side’s 2-1 victory at Tottenham, notching his second league goal of the season.
In the Championship, Hendrick’s double contributed to Derby County’s 5-0 win over Wolves, leaving the Rams one point clear at the top of the table.
In the US, Keane struck LA Galaxy’s second goal in their 5-0 win over Real Salt Lake and helped Landon Donovan seal a hat-trick in the process, sending his side into the Western Conference Championship.
