Ireland rugby legend Ronan O'Gara looks for help from public in tracking down Instagram impostor

THE former fly-half turned coach is attempting to track down the creator of the fake account which has got him banned from the social media application.

The 2009 Grand Slam winner has been denied access to the platform since a fake account, amassing over 8,000 followers, appeared on the site.

Taking to Twitter to express his frustration, the Corkman said: “Need a hand identifying who this impostor is…I can’t get on Instagram as a result…FAKE ACCOUNT.”

Thankfully Instagram has since removed the fake account but it didn’t stop Twitter users from having a joke at O’Gara’s expense.

Former teammate Jerry Flannery was quick off the mark tweeting “Relax man, you sound like @realDonaldTrump

Another witty contributor shared a picture of current Ireland fly-half Jonny Sexton, with the caption: “Instagram have hacked the account and managed to get the users identity. Share to help find out his name…”

O’ Gara, who is now assistant coach at New Zealand club Canterbury Crusaders, became only the 12th Irishman in the history of the sport to be inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

Speaking at the ceremony, O’Gara told reporters that he would “like to coach Ireland”.

"Five years into my playing career I wasn't the best player I could be and it's harder in coaching because there is more to learn,” he said.

"It's hard to get the jobs and opportunities I've been given. You have to make the most of them. Someone can open a door for you, but you have to take the gap when it's there.

"I'm not too bothered about my title, I just want to be in a group where I'm valued and I get the best out of the people around me.

"The great thing about rugby is the best people get the best jobs now.

"That's a lesson Ireland have probably learnt from in the past; that it's not always best for an Irishman to coach Ireland.

"If you look at the man who's coaching there at the moment, he's the best man for the job. If you're the best you should get it and if you're not, you shouldn't."
