Ireland have provided an update on Tadhg Bierne's fitness, he looks likely to miss the game against Italy in two weeks

The IRELAND MEDICAL TEAM has said that Ireland and Munster lock Tadhg Bierne will see a specialist on Monday to decide the treatment plan for the leg injury that saw him leave the game early on Saturday.

Bierne was one of the key Ireland players that was instrumental in the 32-19 win over France on Saturday at the Aviva but left the field in the second half and was later spotted with a protective boot on his left leg.

Head coach Andy Farrell in the post-match press conference after the game said, ""Not looking too great at this moment in time."

There was also a statement on the IRFU website that added, "Tadhg Beirne will see a specialist today to determine the treatment plan for the leg injury that saw him leave the game early on Saturday."

It will more than likely mean now that the 31-year-old will miss Ireland's next game away to Italy in the Stadio Olympico on the 25th of this month.

The same statement went onto add updates several other players in the squad, "Rob Herring will proceed through the Return to Play protocols while captain Johnny Sexton’s groin will be managed this week. Dan Sheehan will continue his hamstring rehab under the supervision of the Ireland medical team."

"Cian Healy, Tadhg Furlong, Robbie Henshaw and Jamison Gibson Park will continue their respective rehab programmes."

In other Irish news, the Ireland coaching team have kept 25 players for the two-day minicamp at the IRFU High Performance Centre later this week, while the rest of the squad have returned to their provinces to play in this weekend’s URC fixtures.

The Ireland squad will train with Richie Murphy’s Ireland U20s later in the week, confirmed the IRFU.
