Ireland end year 2nd in 2024 World Rugby rankings

The Irish rugby team has ended the year as the second-best team in the world, according to the 2024 World Rugby rankings.

Andy Farrell's side concluded their Autumn Nations Series with three wins and one loss, falling to New Zealand in the opening game.

South Africa tops the rankings, which comes as no surprise following their World Cup triumph. New Zealand remains in third, with the order of the top teams unchanged.

France is ranked fourth, securing their place as the next-best team.

Wales has dropped to a record low of 11th in the global rankings, overtaken by Italy, Fiji, and the Wallabies.

England has fallen two places to seventh, while Scotland remains in sixth.

Argentina has moved up to take England's initial fifth-place position.
