FULHAM IRISH Ladies beat Holloway Gaels in the final of the Mary Catherine Fryday Memorial Tournament at Greenford on Saturday.

The annual seven-a-side tournament, which is held in honour of the late wife of the President of the Ladies Board Joe Fryday, attracted nine teams from across London.

Kellie Carr of Thomas McCurtains was named Player of the Tournament, but it was Fulham Irish who lifted the trophy on a mostly clear, dry and sunny afternoon at the home of Tir Chonaill Gaels.

Mr Fryday said: “The whole day was out of this world. We were there in the clubhouse until nine o’clock and others stayed until midnight, singing and dancing, we’d a great time altogether.

“The weather was great too, it just started to drop a bit of rain as the last ball was kicked in the final, so we got lucky. Everything went according to plan.

“I led the teams in for the final and Fulham Irish did very well to win it. They were a good team - I believe that’s only their junior team and they beat senior teams off the field.”

Dulwich Harps, Kingdom-Kerry Gaels, Heston Gaels, Claddagh Gaels, Fr Murphys and Tir Chonaill Gaels all fielded teams too.
